A 7-year-old boy witnessed his mother's kidney failure and dialysis, and at age 9, his mother successfully received a kidney transplant. He inherited polycystic kidney disease and faces similar challenges. About one in seven people in the United States suffer from chronic kidney disease, of which 10% are caused by genetic disorders.
